I rarely pick up horror novels, but when I do, I want them to leave me with a lasting fear/fascination. Stephen King does this wonderfully. Anne Rice has finally managed it with Those Who Must Be Kept. They’re beautiful and they make my skin crawl. I kept saying “what the fuck” under my breath as I read about them. what the fuck!!
