This book kind of suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks lmao. No wonder it kept getting rejected for like 10+ years no offense. But like it sucksssssssssssssss.

Good for slow reading and thinking about the implications after each chapter. I feel my brain being fed.

It's interesting and I'm fine with the slow-burn nature of it - the tower scenes are colorful enough to keep me entertained. There are parts where I feel like this novel would work better as a webtoon, whether it's the somewhat frequent pages-long description dumps of the visuals, or the twists and tropes that come out of such a dense and well-populated genre. I still like it!!

It's fun seeing into the heads of all the teen boxer characters with all the electric zing and warp of that age. Sometimes I'll be reading it going like 'haha lol she's so crazy' and then five pages later I'm like 'ohhh she's actually crazy,' I'm a big fan

Ishmael and Queequeg are so cute together. It's actually nice like I'm not even going to say it's doomed yaoi. It's doomed shounen ai with proper development.

lowkey her therapist sounds useless. there are youtube videos out there that provide more value, tho most of them probably werent around when this book was being written

the 2nd person POV makes the book feel like Ianthe x reader sometimes ngl. No complaints

The setting and glimpses of the nature of the disease we get is amazing. I love the backdrop it makes against all these loosely connected stories. I peeked at the reviews to this already tho and ngl, it gets a little repetitive that all the characters like the same oldies bands and talk the same, even when they're (supposed to be) very different people. I don't think I like the space stuff yet.

Such a promising set-up and character cast! I'm really excited to see how it all unfolds from here. <spoiler>I predict Montserrat and Tristan are going to sneakily complete the ritual for Montserrat's sister, against Abel's wishes, exactly the reverse of the original spell's situation. Abel finds out about this too late but just early enough to fuck up the spell for them, then... consequences!</spoiler>

I dig the vibe sometimes but it literally just feels like R-rated edgy Percy Jackson so far. Neil Gaiman has also joined the coterie of 'authors who should be quieter about their attraction to women'. Why would you write about how one could see "every goosebump on her areolae"? Can you talk about her personality first lol.

I try to analyze each story as I finish reading them, but I can't tell if I'm kidding myself or managing to sync up to Kafka's brainwaves from a century ago. His plots and characters are metaphors and symbols stripped bare, so it can be hard to tell what directions he's going before it smacks us in the face.

I really like this so far

He&his ghostwriter has a great way with words, but the longer I read, despite my sympathies, the more I find out idgaf. I thought this book would be a good introductory dip into the royal stuff and the whole topic's just not for me. I hope he's happy with his new life! I don't think I'll finish this.
