My reading has been a little bit off pace last couple of months - work busy. I’m going to do a reset of reading this one and some other larger reading projects putting them on hold. Instead I’m going to read the much smaller first release of this book and come back to this edition later. Of course their is no certainty in employment with the way things are at the moment and I may find I have more time on hand.

Listening to the updated second edition of these lectures from 2013 which don’t appear on Goodreads. It contains ten extra lectures making 60 lectures in total.

After setting the scope of the book as being a short introduction to the essentials of RT rather than as an exposition of all reformed doctrines Sproul asserts in the introduction that RT is a theology; not a religion. He states the difference is significant because religion is driven by its understanding of how man reacts to theology while theology itself is driven by its understanding of the character of God.

Book 1 complete. Wow, what a great command of the scriptures, early church fathers etc Calvin shows in his writings on the topics he is moved to discuss. He no doubt gives greater emphasis to topics of significance to his time and less controversial topics get lesser coverage. Getting a correct understanding of God is front and centre of his writing as it is foundational to all our other understanding. On to Book 2.
