I can’t decide if this is a Hear Me Out or a DNF. Interesting for sure.

commonly known invasive species like ivy or feral cats don’t impact their environment out of malice or greed but just because of their nature. humanity evolved right alongside the other creatures of the earth. we’re not invasive, just abusive.

(I know saying humans are invasive species is catchier. I’m just saying. )

It brings me great joy that the phrase “You’re pushing thirty.” has been around for so long, lol

The coffee shop bit isn’t as funny as the author seems to think it is.

I find myself simultaneously drawn to and repulsed by the snarky artist slice of life type books. I do like snark and art, but it is so distracting the way the (predominantly white, upper middle class, academic) authors of this loose genre handle identity. “I’m liberal white but not in a cringe way where I care about all that woke culture stuff” seems to be the soup de jour. It’s hardly funny or interesting.

Maybe the first book I’ve read that made me shout “Oh god Nooooooo!!!” out loud. The cringe is delectable and unbearable.

i just started this and my head already hurts i hate the world

it is kind of funny that lena dunham had a very impressive career at a very young age, the path to which would be incredibly interesting to hear about, and instead this book of essays is about stuff like who she kissed in 7th grade

Ugh I wish I read this book while I was still in college. Would be excellent required reading for an intro reading class too.

“Gang-bangingly” as an adverb is incredible. Lol

trying to read the ebook version of this is a minor nightmare. not sure how kindle does not yet have a way to smoothly accommodate this guys fuckin footnotes. lol
