Has anyone else ever grabbed a few packing peanuts, thrown them in your mouth, and chewed on them? It’s an unusually unsatisfying experience.

That image came to mind after slogging through 90% of this book.

Every conversation is an evasion. Nothing substantial is ever spoken, only obliquely hinted at and then promptly denied. It’s not so bad at first, but whenever every conversation up to now has followed the same format — it makes me want to scream and wish death on every character in the book. GIVE ME SOMETHING TO CARE ABOUT WITH THESE CHARACTER,
PLEASE. A HINT OF HUMANITY OR MATURITY.
