I have 30 pages left of the book but this woman's family is so cartoonishly evil that I am physically sick reading it. The worst part is that she's writing them with a lot of sympathy for their lack of education and alleged mental health disorders, but their ignorance and its effect on her is preventing me from having any empathy for them.

There's actually really compelling nature vs nurture, misotheism, and corruption of the church themes going on here but they feel unintentional because the world building is a little random/underdeveloped.
