Dennis Winton is 59% done with The Guns of August
Made it to chapter 16 before I had to return to Library. The one I borrowed also had "The Proud Tower" which describes life around the world at the turn of the century, just before WWI. I read the chapter about the US, "End of a Dream" which had a lot to say about Thomas B Reed, from Maine.

Read through Book IV and had to return to the Library. What I love about these dialogues so far is the art of the dialogue. The art of being able to have a conversation with someone who has a different view than you by opposing without attacking, by listening without becoming so defensive that you can't be willing to explore the possible truth from the other side. This is an art that needs a revival today.

Enjoying it so far. Have been distracted with a few other books so this has been on the back shelf, literally. Might be time to pick it up again.

Wow! What a perspective on WWII. You'll feel like you're in the trenches and get a glimpse of the human side of a soldier. I now have a greater respect for our men and women in uniform. As a Christian, the applications to spiritual warfare are so deep, one could write another book on just that. A friend of mine read this and suggested it should be mandatory high school reading. I wholeheartedly agree!
