Slow going.

I'm getting pretty annoyed at the characters. They're supposed to be bickering due to tenseness of the discovery and what they should do, but they're like that bunch of high school kids in THE BREAKFAST CLUB, not yet bursting through their own archetypes. This Clair chick is a collection of ticks, and the romance moments make me shudder with cringe.

This series seem to be mainly excellent worldbuilding and mystery/adventure plot as BACKGROUND, with romance in the foreground as main meal... Whenever romance begin, the background loses all focus and tension. It's unfortunate.

Hmm.. the interesting tone completely changed when Grace is introduced. Now it's turning into a fluffy rom-com, and I'm not fond of these.

Lots of plot, not much depth. I'm finding all the shenanigans tiresome.

So far, I really hate how every dude is hot: Kai, dragons, elves. This is the worst YA fantasy trope.

Hmm, she changed her mind so quickly after multiple millennia... now I'm expecting a twist ending.

I was excited to see a broadened world, intergalactic war with a completely alien species. Now I realize: no, just a larger number of individuals too focused on their feelings. What dumb empire would not send xenobiologists to support a first contact scenario? Aliens could have completely unexpected psychologies than mammals can predict. Even if human-like, how would destroying their planet make them back off?!

Getting really annoyed at the main character. Her annoying ability to see one's issue then shove it out of sight and do nothing is beyond repetitive.
