this book is such an interesting take on cinderella. like, the context it provides for (hypothetically) so many fairy tales is so interesting and so cool to see taking shape

twasn’t the KGB, but they still very clearly had a problem with her, so my commentary stands

also she has a boyfriend at this point in time, & in the span of one page we go from “I won’t stop talking to her!!” to “I miss my bf” to “nancy, help me figure out my feelings!!!” (i’m not even kidding,, like, did no one pick up on how this just makes it seem like the gay subtext is intentional???)
in conclusion: george is a comphet lesbian so powerful that the fucking KGB wants to take her out

a nother wonderful edition of nancy drew files, where everyone hates each other and I hate them all. this time, the fucking KGB wants to kill nancy’s friend george to keep her from winning a bike race (??)

i swear to god it’s like this game was made for me.
this is what happens if you mix fairy tale retellings, teen murder books and a nancy drew game together. so basically just a bunch of my favorite things all smushed together.
i could cry over how perfect for me this premise is.

i really hate Barnum.

i really love Amelia.

i really love the character of Amelia.
she’s so frank, so abrupt. she is who she is, end of discussion. she knows the rest of the world works differently than she does but doesn’t understand why, nor does she care to.

the entire town just being like “she might be a mermaid but she is OUR mermaid and NO ONE gets to talk abt her”

i just went on an emotional fucking rollercoaster.
i have like 30 book reviews i plan on writing when i have the time but this book has shot to the front of the line. p154-180 has made this book stand out from so many other books.
i’m always hard on beauty and the beast because it’s so easy to fuck up. because of that, when one does it right, i take note, and my GOD did this one do it right.

i really like her friendship w jayla. feels real, well thought out, well defined. wish nikki was more of a character tho - both that she was more present and more developed

my god. i hate love triangles but love the drama of an unknowing (two person) love square.
like ML def isn’t the only thing thing to do this but it is the best example of the trope so i can’t help but compare
i like the added drama that one half of the love square knows the other half is one person but that side is unaware. drama. it’s wonderful

this is very cute
thinking 4 stars - really liking the story and characters but there are a few moments that feel kinda clunky
also,, we have a bit of a miraculous situation going on here. drama. i like it.

the book is mostly solid
there are some moments that are kinda rough, could’ve used some refining, but all in all i’m liking it

i was unsure of this at first but it’s really endearing
they’re both cute and it seems really sweet so far
like idk. there r some expositional moments that r a bit much (usually when introducing characters) but there haven’t been many of those
it seems cute

i feel like a part of it is bc i don’t always like instalove, and romeo&juliet is usually always instalove, but they’re making it work

i’m loving this book.
i feel the same way i did when i was 12 and finished cress the same day i bought it.
i’m truly enjoying this so much. makes me happy :)

this one didn’t have a gut punch plot twist, but it didn’t need one.
amazingly done.
