Elyse is so insufferable (as is Rachel’s seemingly unending patience with her) I’m ready for this book to be over.

There’s a reason Jenks couldn’t travel with her; all of these decisions she’s making are dumb. But not in-character dumb.

Glad Al finally brought up the point that’s been driving me crazy about this whole make-Kisten-a-ghost thing. So far disappointed in this as the plot for this book; I feel like we’ve all moved past Kisten, including the series in general. Feels like that episode of Castle where the Triplr X killer made his victims look like the team—overdone and reaching.

I don’t know about it… I knew that last chapter was gonna abruptly take us somewhere almost wholly unrelated, I could feel it. I’m afraid this book is going to be a lot of descriptive, vivid imagery, musings, and no plot. I’ll give it till book club to hear how others talk about it, but I’m sensing a DNF.

Soooo nice to read a book in academia written by someone who knows how it works. Talking shit about AI detectors is one of my academic love languages.

Struggling with this one. A lot of names, a lot of timelines, and no reason to care about any of these people.

This book is making me want to look into cello lessons again.

I’m not enjoying this one as much as the first. I just feel very confused about what’s going on.

Gotta say, I’m getting weirded out by the overuse of “lust” and how our fiery protagonist gets super passive once she starts making out with Samir.

I’m not used to being so far into a book and having no sense of who the protagonists are. The plot is moving forward, but as a character reader, I’m not sure why I’m supposed to care. (Obviously freeing the skaa, but that feels more like a band aid to the lack of character motivation than anything so far.)

Okay, once we moved away from Colby, I’m much happier.

I’m already tempted to DNF this one. I hate this kind of friendship dynamic.

I’m really not enjoying how this book is set up. I’ll get into the story, then this condescending narrator intrudes to address me as the reader and explain backstory. I stopped reading the footnotes ages ago, which helps, but man. Whoever the “I” is always managed to pull me out of the narrative and irritate me a lot. Some might find it charming, but it isn’t working for me.

I’m not super into the tone or the footnotes at the moment, but reserving judgment.

This one hasn’t pulled me in as much as I expected, but I’m intrigued.

This far in and it hasn't done anything for me. DNFing.

I'm really bored so far; I'm gonna give it a little longer, but I'm tempted to DNF. The writing style feels very meandering, and it's not catching my interest.

Why is everyone trying to make Jo give up writing? And why is that supposed to be a good thing?

I’m disappointed every time I have to go back to the mulefa. These sections just drag.

Well, this edition is only the first half, so I'm distraught, and waiting for a new copy to arrive.
