About halfway done, this book has me stalled big time, for every good thing it brings, it throws two annoying ones at you.

I dug this book a lot more when it was coming out, the story had a lot of mystery to it because of all the angles and plot lines Priest through at it. Reading it collected though, all those angles come off as convoluted and the plot lines lead to plot holes. Also the creepy dynamic between Rose and Slade makes me a little nauseous. The art is nice, Pagulayan, Cowan and Nord makes this action book look great.

This is one of the most incredible books I’ve read.

This is not like Book of Ancestors at all. It’s dull and the characters are bland. At chapter 23 for a week now, this might end up in the DNF bin.

The prose is nice and lyrical but it doesn’t make up for the overwhelming monotony that’s ever present in the book. Nor does it compensate for its anal retentive and unlikable protagonist. Reading it feels like sinking ever slowly into quicksand.
Made it as far as the end of The Baths and I’m bowing out a rare DNF for me but life is too short to waste on books I don’t vibe with.
