Violation of “the body” and the abject is a theme through the entire book. Violation in cannibalism, violation of the physical through processing, violation by SA, etc. Another horror aspect I found was Marcus’ treatment of “the female”

This book does not hold back. About a quarter of the way through I had the suspicion the author was vegan or vegetarian based on the descriptions and language of humans as meat. Another characteristic of this book is it reminds me a lot of dystopian books written in the 60s in which the political is prominent and direct.
