So far a nice blend of police mystery with a dash of folk horror set in the UK peaks district

This is so good! It is shaping up to eclipse “The Only Good Indians” as my favorite from Stephen Graham Jones.

This is a fascinating read so far. The author uses TB as a common thread to stitch together an engaging relatable story about this deadly communicable disease through history, geopolitics and sociology.

There are elements of this I do like, but so far it feels kind of predictable. The actions of one of the main protagonists feels a bit hollow to me. Apparently this is the first book in a series… while I’ll finish the book at this point I can’t see myself continuing the series.

Another book with a big time jump and losing characters which I was invested in. Maybe there is a good reason for the jump, but it sure makes for a speed bump. I was tearing up the pages before, and now I am struggling to find motivation to continue.

I’m enjoying this vampires, woman rage, sapphic romance… Captures some of the lightning of Anne Rice before Anne jumped the shark after The Vampire Lestat.
