can’t believe the top review for this is “not gory enough and not gay enough” r we even reading the same book. that review prepared for an *understated* horror novel not this flesh fest. and these women get freakier w every page. some crazy control kink shit they had to stop making out in the throne room cos the demons were like “ooh let’s wait till they’re doing the nasty and then we’ll eAt them!”

can’t believe in the middle of horrific war and deranged cult takeover these women can still find time for romance like hello? she’s choking u while *possessed by the devil* and ur like “ooh this is kinda sexy hehe!” shut up. ur about to get murdered or die of starvation. very cool formidable trio - nerdy renegade nun freak, street-smart flirty master manipulator, weepy muscular knight himbo. love them all

first re-read since i was 13, when i hyperfixated on this book like mad, borrowed it multiple times from my school library, memorised its spot on the shelves, made it in my entire personality for at least 3 weeks. recently came across an insanely great piece of carrie fanart that threw me back to that time in my life. besides that, going forth with the headcannon that carrie is lesbian this time… for science.

“Biologists and the laws of evolution on Earth said humanity had started, like everything else, in the sea. Maybe that explained fearing the dark. An ancestral memory of this sort of all-consuming nothingness”

logging my thoughts as i go

what if the leaked footage was retrieved in raw codec like 10bit and allat and that’s how they know for sure it can’t be doctored. or maybe it’s labelled a proxy and they will NEVER KNOW RAHHHHHHHHHH

i'm loving this but kinda wish it leaned fully into body horror with the roses and thorns. also contradictorily i'm sorry but this is all my brain sees whenever they mention the flower growing from rowan's hand bcos i am full of brainrot

ok i think most of it is super cool but as a singaporean i’m finding it hard to be into this colonizer romance where the sapphic power play seems a little too direct. no fault of anyone i just think its giving me the same ick that the raffles statue gives sorry. other than that its pretty cool and also reminds me of SRT’s stage adaptation of Miss Julie which was also exploring racial dynamics (but in post ww2)

yea this book is definitely, without a doubt, openly and completely racist. obvious from the first page but i underestimated just how deep-rooted it was. it’s the whole, very dangerous package of the lost cause, with complete denial of abuse, and literally NO criticisms of slavery as a concept AT ALL.

i can’t deny that part of me was looking for any signs of subversion in mitchell’s writing about the “lost cause” of the confederacy, especially with scarlett’s indifference to it all. but she’s ignorant, and i would be ignorant to think her better. this book no doubt romanticises colonialism and slavery to a very deep degree. don’t wanna make conclusions before im even a quarter in but-

“Women knew that a land where men were content, uncontradicted and safe in possession of unpunctured vanity was likely to be a very pleasant place for women to live. So from cradle to grave, women strove to make men pleased with themselves, and the satisfied men payed lavishly with gallantry and adoration. In fact, men willingly gave the ladies everything in the world except credit for having intelligence.”
