Fuck this. Forrest Gump the novel, down to the watered down Vietnam politics and feminists who actually deep down want to escape their lives to be mothers. Only this time it’s somehow more conservative with its weird religious agenda.

The beauty of the prose creeps up on you, I love the clever comparison of Cromwell and Joanne to Anne and Henry. Also there’s a gorgeous passage about burning everything down that really sticks with you. That said, I do agree that referring to Cromwell constantly as “he” is distracting. I get it from an aesthetic perspective but really as a reader it’s a bit of a challenge that takes you out of the novel.

I really love Nussbaum's insight, her arguments are convincing and challenging to disagree with.

Can’t wait for the canonized version with a giant glossary and tons of historical notes
