The beauty of the prose creeps up on you, I love the clever comparison of Cromwell and Joanne to Anne and Henry. Also there’s a gorgeous passage about burning everything down that really sticks with you. That said, I do agree that referring to Cromwell constantly as “he” is distracting. I get it from an aesthetic perspective but really as a reader it’s a bit of a challenge that takes you out of the novel.
