I planned on just finishing the book but in the event I fall asleep before I do, I wanted to say that the main character has the same grounded in reality relatableness the one from The Hollow Places did, and I really enjoy it! The message of the story is very obvious but that doesn’t take away at all from its impact or my enjoyment because it’s very good at what it does. And ofc the writing style is to die for

I wish this character would give more reason as to her motive for making decisions because I gave her the benefit of the doubt for hiding one piece of info, but this new situation? She’s literally putting her career on the line for no reason (as far as I can tell and she has told me) and it’s really dumb

“Rachel always told me if it doesn’t work out, I should just convert everything to screenplays.”

What the fuck does this even mean??? “Oh God, my work will lose all meaning if I have to reformat them in Final Draft & adjust the action lines” like stfu like I get some stuff will have to change but i can’t w pretentious bs

The drama the intrigue the collapse, I guessed certain things around the time I was supposed to if I were to realize it at all and the revelation was still so good and I still have more questions to fill in those gaps and goddamn it I need to sleep but I can’t because I have so many questions the fucking drama of it all

The world building is fascinating and the writing is so good and also intentional, I was so happy to return back to this after yesterday’s pause to drag myself through the end of that other book

90% in and I honestly don’t care like stuff is happening and like I feel bad but not as much as I should like I just don’t like remy as much as I should (or at all) and the writing isn’t that good at times and so I’m just like here. Waiting for this to be over.

Yes cause Remy expects the worst from you constantly, even now despite liking you, and he himself never apologizes nor accepts being wrong because he has the emotional maturity of a child and reads like a 16 yr old rather than a 23 yr old which is one of the many reasons why I feel this relationship doesn’t work

Not the book contradicting itself in less than two pages like honestly. Maybe I just don’t know what romance is anymore but this doesn’t feel like a romance, it feels like they’re just horny and this kid is willing to be with anyone he finds hot and falls in love with any girl who’s vaguely nice to him and the book made a joke about it as if that isn’t exactly what’s happening and should be addressed

You mean??? The way you’ve been ??? The entire fucking book????? Except maybe the past chapter ??? Where you still call him names and threaten bodily harm ??? Which is not cute since you’re supposed to like him now??? Even though youve shown no growth to lead to that???

Show don’t tell, more than show vs. tell

I want Remy to actually face consequences for his shitty actions he makes like he’s been let loose just being shitty and cruel and never had to apologize, but the one time he’s facing consequences it’s for stuff he didn’t do, and I just think that’s annoying because it still puts him firmly in the right in the narrative even tho he’s been shitty previously and I’m annoyed

I miss the plot. I just want plot

67% done and I’ll push through because I want to see how the plot ends, if there’s a sequel, and if they’ll not only acknowledge the dubious nature of what just occurred (so far it doesn’t seem so) but if they won’t let them get together until a time skip as they should because lord Jesus this relationship is a train wreck solely because of Remy (not his fault, but still the source of the reason)

I may actually have to DNF because I was already still frustrated by how idiotic Remy is and how the relationship between him and the other two is like non existant nor should not happen until he gets a lot of stuff figured out, and now the sexual tension (not that there was any beyond what the book claimed) is broken in this situation and in this way??? Nope. No. I’m sorry no. Jail.

I wish this was all plot and no romance (at least involving Remy) cause I’m enjoying the plot but I’m so annoyed by Remy and his behavior towards Zidan and itd be easier to stomach if there wasn’t also romance involved cause it just makes him seem stupider and even less ready for this relationship

I’m enjoying the plot and I do like remy, though he’s really grating on me right now, and I think it’s because compared to the others he’s so immature and whiny that he can’t be in the relationship I know is being set up. Like they say he’s got this instant intense attraction with Xiodan, but what it feels like is a kid who has a babysitter and hates her boyfriend cause he has a crush on her

The library is gonna be taking back the loan soon so temp DNF soon until I get to borrow this again

Absolutely adore Lucy and how she so clearly showcases why Steve has to be the main character because like everyone looks down on Twyford’s writing for being simple as if there isn’t also value in that and like value in the non-academic and just fucking ooooh

The intrigue is high and the choice of Steve as the main character is so good because like I’m half second hand embarrassed for him, but the other half like “no maybe that’s why he’s the only one who’ll get this” like idk I’m intrigued

I got 7 days to finish this and I intend to do so, the prologue alone has me hooked
