That is one long book, but it seems it increasingly picks up the pace as it goes.

I find it hard to believe that humanity failed to find even a single habitable planet in the universe so far.

Is terraforming a truly foreign concept in this universe?

It's going on end on a cliffhanger, isn't it. It feels like the book will not have a satisfactory conclusion.

This all screams Daniel Suarez's "Influx" to me. Enemy with vastly superior technology, who is probably going to be brought down by his own flaws.

It starts to show already, with the Singh apparently making strings of bad decisions.

This really reads like Jules Verne book. It's great so far.

I have to admit, the writing is a bit juvenile, and many characters somehow feel less than one-dimensional.

We'll see how it turns out.

The story setup looks promising, and actually somewhat realistic.

The technological advances of the space race are rather unparalelled, except for maybe the advance in computing, especially nowadays. I can totally imagine something like this being a convincing scenario of the future. Or present.

It's not always where you see main character set off a nuclear explosion in a fantasy book.

It does seem to be a trend in Mark Lawrence's books, where past of the world could serve for a decent sci-fi novel, and current setting is fantasy.

It's not that often that you get to experience the story from pov of such a despicable character - at least initially.

The amount of perverted stuff in this book is just too damn high, and i hope it doesn't stay this way. On the other hand, i feel like a fool hoping for something like that.

I can stomach kids being bullied or hanged, but animal abuse - man that was a tough piece to read. Sign of the times, i guess.

As for the book, the writing is amazing so far. Haven't read anything this fun in a long while.

The description of the slowly moving terraforming process is fascinating read, the moral arguments are interesting as well.

The book so far shows that ugly flaw of humanity - the power struggles, the jealousy, the mental breakdowns due to isolation from one's culture of origin. And the wonders of science and effort.

The main difficulties future space colonies will face will be in our own nature, not technology.
