FINALLY!!! Goodreads eventually decides my password isn't wrong and lets me back on!! So much catching up to do!

Saw the first episode of The Last Kingdom (BBC adaptation of Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories) and was surprised how enjoyable it was, even if it did cram far too much into one episode/ needlessly change the death of Uhtred's father. Blatantly heavily influenced by Vikings (tv show) too but that's forgivable.

Not even a chapter in and there's already a sinkhole sized flaw in the believability of the plot caused by a failure to do even the most basic research...

Decided to re-read Bernard Cornwell's 'Warrior Chronicles' ahead of the TV adaptation, partly to distract myself from the fear it won't live up to expectations and the inevitable Vikings (TV show) comparisons.

Ridiculously over-long introduction that's a good thousand words longer than it need be. Only other observation is that it's a very different structure to normal English narrative... Quite hard to get into.

Looks like I'm back in that position of reading four books at the same time again!

I dropped the ball... I missed Empire VIII. Running out to Waterstones tomorrow for sure!

Cast for the BBC adaptation of The Last Kingdom seems like it could go either way...

The first case I've come across where the film adaptation is most distinctly better than it's source material...

Surprisingly good so far. Incredibly descriptive and immersive without bombarding you with details.
