DNF, lots of science backed info. I don’t need convincing I really just needed to know the best way to go about it for my own body

“The shoulders of our soul remain drooped in the presence of God. Once again, it is a result of projecting our own capacities to love onto God. We do not know his truest heart.” I love this book

“Repent of your small thoughts of Gods heart.” To repent of those thoughts I have to ask myself what are my thoughts of Gods heart? Our culture thrusts Gods thoughts of us onto everything, that we are like asleep to our thoughts of Him.

“His highest priority and deepest delight -his heart- is merciful and gracious. He gently accommodates himself to our terms rather than overwhelming us with his.”

I love this book, and I believe the Lord is merciful and gracious. The Lord also chastens those He loves(which is mercy and grace to us). Then, our terms over His, His yoke is easy, His burden is light. I would like to see this quote fleshed out more.

This book is great and has grown on me the more I read it. But certain parts of it stand out, gleaming more than other parts

“it is not his disciples but his antagonists who most clearly perceive who he is. Though the crowds call him the friend of sinners as an indictment, the label is one of unspeakable comfort for those who know themselves to be sinners. That Jesus is friend to sinners is only contemptible to those who feel themselves not to be in that category.”

“As Calvin puts it ‘the Son of God having clothed himself with our flesh, of his own accord clothed himself also with human feelings, so that he did not differ at all from his brethren, sin only excepted.”

“Let’s not dishonor God by so emphasizing his transcendence that we lose a sense of the emotional life of God of which our own emotions are an echo, even if a fallen and distorted echo.”

Reading this is like a conversation with a friend, it’s an easy read but also transparent and in depth. Joanna is not being superficial at all and that just makes me love her more.

It’s sort of a mystery, leaves you with questions after each chapter, which I like

This book is so sad. Almost uncomfortably sad. I almost put it down

I know it’s fiction but the events that happen in this book are so immensely grievous that I would put it down if this book was not actually based on the way that it truly was. It’s def served to make me more curious about Poland during WWII.

Much more riveting now that when I was in middle school.

I love reading letters. “Fulfil your course with joy; for we take nothing to the grace with us but a good or evil conscience. And although the sky clear after this storm, yet clouds will engender another.”

“The first half of psalm 37:8 makes good sense to anyone minimally familiar with KJV English. So my story also suggests that beloved emperors may become naked through a lengthy process and not all at once. I don’t think the KJV is a naked emperor but at some point between natty and nude it’s appropriate for a small child in the crowd to wonder out loud where all this is headed.”

I love this book! Such a wonderful testimony of redemption and Gods grace 😭😭

Wow there is so much in this book to unpack. So much brokenness and grace and perspectives. So many different ways to view this testimony
