Sighs. This is not the sort of book that appeals to me at all, so reading this feels like work homework, which it is. The kids feel disingenuous to me, but at least they are the fail of the characters from the last YA I tried to read but ended up just turning back in. God, what the hell is up with all these damn hipster kids in every single YA I've picked up lately.

Holy crap. I know Jen and I talked about the Dust Witch, but I hadn't reread up to that point yet. Holy shit, I forgot how sinister that whole sequence with the balloon is.

Twin Peaks and Bleak House are starting to blur in my mind. I am starting to become convinced that David Lynch and Dickens share the same sense of the absurd. Is Twin Peaks considered an example of the modern gothic. IDK.

I wish I had gone with my first instinct and had waited to start reading this till after Thanksgiving. I have so, so much baking and cooking to do and all I want to do is read this! It's pitch perfect from the first chapter and I love me some Sieh. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm cooking cuz my Grandma asked me, I'd just say screw and read cuz Jemisin is like my new favorite writer.

This book is pretty insane. I'm surprised people find this "such a good love story" because it's seriously creeping me out.
