i either need authors to write less whiny and irritating antagonistic side characters or i need narrators to tone down the whining in their delivery. i shouldn’t be getting annoyed and rageful listening to a fantasy novel. minus one star for lottie’s existence.

this book has lost a star because in all the stories i’ve read, bran isn’t a FUCKING PUSSY. now he’s suddenly equating a CHILD being turned against her will with ADULTS and jo chose to be monsters. that’s some fucking bullshit. i have never been this angry with patricia briggs AND I DONT LIKE KIDS. but the hypocrisy is next level grotesque.

this is losing a star because of the extraneous and egregiously repetitive description of dog murder.

re-reading this in order to move forward in the series.

i love hobbes and the whole crew as much as i hate andy. jfc. i get that there needs to be a stupid sidekick but he makes hastings (poirot) look like fucking genius. as a person with adhd, i can get behind a character who struggles with getting stuff done as much as i do. however andy doesn’t try, doesn’t listen, and refuses to take responsibility.

honestly i just started this book and i already hate it. i’m so sick to death of authors profiting from the backs of abuse towards women. their work seems to imply that things have vastly improved for people without a penis. i’m here with no bodily autonomy to say “fuck you. that’s not true”.
this entire list of books is depressingly alike and i’m not interested in any of it as i live the nightmare.

this book was published while i was in high school. like the “prey” series by john sandford, i’ve been reading this author for over half my life. at some point i had to stop because the depictions of violence started to read like torture porn. also lucy, who was an irritating child, grew into a complete fucking asshole.
there’s so much outdated tech, i can’t sort how this became a series.

oh good. let’s add rape.

i’m hate reading this piece of shit for the black history month reading challenge because everything else is worse. the people who chose the selections need to be smacked.

i hate the multiple narrator format. i detest the flashback format. i despise when authors name all the characters so similarly or vaguely that i cannot keep them straight. when you combine all three it’s a recipe for frustration. add multiple nicknames and stage names for every character to all three, and this book is a fucking nightmare. and the explicit depictions of body parts was repulsive.

i don’t think every book by a black author is filled with abuse and grotesque sex so why are all the choices for goodreads’ black history month challenge so upsetting. this is the third book i have tried from the challenge. as much as i like nonfiction, the reality in 2026 makes reading about abuse triggering. the novels are all violent and abusive. do better.

i had to skip the absolutely disgusting first 5 chapters of horrifyingly graphic shit about breeding and shitting out a kid. i tried to find another book for this challenge once i realized this book was going to be super triggering. unfortunately everything else in that challenge was equally repellent for a variety of pregnancy and animal murder related reasons.

this book just lost two stars for cat murder. it didn’t advance the plot and it was unnecessary and cruel. if i weren’t so close to the end i’d bail right now. stupid sunk cost fallacy.

i love the series. my only beef is that the author has written such despicable villains and then they suffer zero consequences.

i was already edgy about everything happening in the us right now and am now having to take a break from this book. the narrator and author have captured the greed and machiavellian plotting a little too well. the way the government is trying to control history and making quiet threats is just too real.

i forgot that this author doesn’t shy away from violence against animals. loses a star for unnecessary animal murder.

well. i knew it was unsafe to mix ammonia and bleach (a friend was nearly killed at work when she topped up a labeled spray bottle with diluted bleach not realizing someone had misused the bottle for ammonia and not relabeled it. the fumes had her in respiratory distress for a week.
now i’ve learned that you can’t mix vinegar and bleach for similar reasons.

the “covers” for a newer set include poisonous plants. i don’t know how many i read before i realized it. it was the nightshade on “a caribbean mystery” that gave it away.

how. does. she. not. know. how? it’s inexplicable. i know she’s not feeling her best and has discovered some personally traumatizing things about her community, but JFC. she literally read it out loud and then moved on.
does she thinks it’s an actual lamb? she’s not this stupid.

it has only gotten stranger. there’s literally 1/3 of this book left and i’m slightly horrified by what’s to come because it’s a horror novel but hasn’t gotten horrific…
yet.

holy cats. i adore this author. she has reached the level of tilly wallace & caimh mcdonnell -writing multiple excellent series simultaneously. the bunnyverse & the world of the stranger times don’t intersect though, & tilly wallace has a new dragon series that exists in a world different to her manners and monsters series. the ability to write multiple series with crossover characters and setting is fully boss.

i knew the religion was gonna be weird, and the “gothic scream queen” matriarch should have been a dead giveaway, but i did not expect that. not even a little. well done madame author. well played. l

i’m so frustrated that this author seems to only be available through spotify. her audiobooks aren’t listed as available for my library to order. it’s so bizarre.
the frustration comes from knowing that i adore the characters and the setting and would happily binge these books like i did everything by tilly wallace.
