so i’m listening to the short story “miss markle takes manhattan” and it uses the word “colored” and sort of implies that miss marple is a racist who can’t tell the difference between black people.
i’m horrified by both, to be honest, but when i looked to see who had written the story, it was alyssa cole-a black author. now i feel the same way i do when a song i like uses a slur- very uncomfortable.

i listened through spotify so it took a couple of months but it was so much fun! i just love caimh and all his weird characters.

this is the third time i have tried to read this fucking book. the misogyny is so overwhelming that i can’t get past this literal punter who is a genuine piece of shit. there’s no death gruesome enough and no fate cruel enough for this bastard.

i’ve just discovered that the author has ten fucking children. why? why would you just breed and breed like that? it’s disgusting. i was already set to bail on this awful book and finding out that the author can’t figure out how not to shit children into the world explains an awful lot about this terrible book with terrible plot and characters.

i just actively dislike this entire cast at this point. they all need a good kick in the ass.
i’m also left wondering how much of these books is godbothering bullshit. i see an awful lot of godbothering reviewers and the mentions of religion make me as uncomfortable as the romance that has slithered into the series. i’m considering bailing completely as i’m essentially constantly infuriated by everyone.

i gave it some time and came back and enjoyed myself.

i have to take a break. the gaslighting is too much. seniors arguing that their right to live is more important than any other person’s. it’s grotesquely relevant.

hi deanna raybourn. you might not believe this, but most of your readers aren’t interested in whatever a birkinbag is or the lavish jewelry some celebrity is wearing.
i hope there’s less of this materialistic bullshit in the next installment.

i’m reading this for the memoir challenge because i’ve read all the others that interest me.
the abusive nature of the cult of scientology is so upsetting that i have to keep stepping away or skipping sections.

engaging so far

these characters are irish. i’m listening to the audiobook. the narrators occasionally use irish accents but narrate in their (presumably) native american and english accents.
is there a dearth of irish narrators? this book has multiple narrators and not a one is irish.

i’m so bothered by the twat who works in the office that i had to bail temporarily.

the detective is such a flaming twat who thinks about no one but herself that i nailed at 10%. ugh.

i’m listening to the audiobook and the narrator has the girls’ voices down pat! she must be a fan of the show. enjoying this immensely.

how is it that all of a sudden, with zero lead up, mayra is afraid of benji?
the writing is subpar and this leap is incongruous. all that rambling nonsense and suddenly they wake up and are instantly worried about escaping?
awful.

i had to skip the “it’s a dog’s life” story because, as a former emergency vet tech, the story hit way too close to home and was too upsetting. i hope to be able to read it at a later time.

i’m hate reading this POS book so i can finish a stupid reading challenge filled with garbage. this one is “debut darlings”.
so awful. was there even an editor? i suspect part of it is the dreadful narrator, but the writing is truly terrible.
the MCs are so unlikeable and creepy. every chapter is more ludicrous and rambling than the last.
it’s just boring, poorly written porn.

i’m agnostic. there are a lot of “angel adjacent” books that are really well done. several fantasy series come to mind, and the worlds they paint manage to not come across as religious drivel.
i have no idea what is happening in this book and why. what i do know is that i’m annoyed and am basically hate reading to get through it.

i just read a great review. i’m not interested in gory or a character driven story with characters i already despise. DNF

i usually avoid books by this author because they’re half again as long as necessary to tell the story and the boredom overtakes me.
this time i’m interested in finding out what the story is, but not in reading the book to obtain that information.
of the characters introduced so far, we have: host, dying horribly; self important twat; libertarian fascist magat; already dead and haunting everyone. blergh
