i was already edgy about everything happening in the us right now and am now having to take a break from this book. the narrator and author have captured the greed and machiavellian plotting a little too well. the way the government is trying to control history and making quiet threats is just too real.

i forgot that this author doesn’t shy away from violence against animals. loses a star for unnecessary animal murder.

well. i knew it was unsafe to mix ammonia and bleach (a friend was nearly killed at work when she topped up a labeled spray bottle with diluted bleach not realizing someone had misused the bottle for ammonia and not relabeled it. the fumes had her in respiratory distress for a week.
now i’ve learned that you can’t mix vinegar and bleach for similar reasons.

the “covers” for a newer set include poisonous plants. i don’t know how many i read before i realized it. it was the nightshade on “a caribbean mystery” that gave it away.

how. does. she. not. know. how? it’s inexplicable. i know she’s not feeling her best and has discovered some personally traumatizing things about her community, but JFC. she literally read it out loud and then moved on.
does she thinks it’s an actual lamb? she’s not this stupid.

it has only gotten stranger. there’s literally 1/3 of this book left and i’m slightly horrified by what’s to come because it’s a horror novel but hasn’t gotten horrific…
yet.

holy cats. i adore this author. she has reached the level of tilly wallace & caimh mcdonnell -writing multiple excellent series simultaneously. the bunnyverse & the world of the stranger times don’t intersect though, & tilly wallace has a new dragon series that exists in a world different to her manners and monsters series. the ability to write multiple series with crossover characters and setting is fully boss.

i knew the religion was gonna be weird, and the “gothic scream queen” matriarch should have been a dead giveaway, but i did not expect that. not even a little. well done madame author. well played. l

i’m so frustrated that this author seems to only be available through spotify. her audiobooks aren’t listed as available for my library to order. it’s so bizarre.
the frustration comes from knowing that i adore the characters and the setting and would happily binge these books like i did everything by tilly wallace.

i finally had to listen to this book in spotify because it never seems to be available at the library.
it’s weirder than i expected but also less weird. perhaps it’s because i went in with no expectations or because mystery is my favorite genre, but i’m really enjoying this book. perhaps if i expected straight fantasy or magic i would be disappointed, but honestly it’s less weird than other books.

for everyone wondering why there’s a cobra: it’s a reference to a though the doctor has about the evil hagfish. he compares her to a cobra after looking her in the eye.

aaaaaaand now there is unnecessary dog murder. i’m genuinely beginning to dislike this author.

grace is the only worthwhile character in this whole shitshow. the pregnant bitch is a ridiculous test, demanding that her husband be friends with her ex and his current boss, who is a greedy and childish prick. tte main guy is a wet blanket and a big fat whiner who refuses to stand up for himself.
the writing and the story are great but the characters are beyond awful. if not for the challenge i’d bail.

aaaaaaaand now i hope this cunt miscarries AND dies.

i’m actively hoping this bitch has a miscarriage. i’m sick to fucking death of her “bump”.

i’m really only sticking with this book for the “star selections” challenge because the book i actually chose isn’t available before the challenge ends.
at this point, it could be the best book ever and it’s still losing a star for the worthless pregnant cow.

why the fuck is there a disgusting pregnant cow in every fucking book? WHY?????

i’m bailing on this book for now and will try later.

so i’m listening to the short story “miss markle takes manhattan” and it uses the word “colored” and sort of implies that miss marple is a racist who can’t tell the difference between black people.
i’m horrified by both, to be honest, but when i looked to see who had written the story, it was alyssa cole-a black author. now i feel the same way i do when a song i like uses a slur- very uncomfortable.

i listened through spotify so it took a couple of months but it was so much fun! i just love caimh and all his weird characters.

this is the third time i have tried to read this fucking book. the misogyny is so overwhelming that i can’t get past this literal punter who is a genuine piece of shit. there’s no death gruesome enough and no fate cruel enough for this bastard.

i’ve just discovered that the author has ten fucking children. why? why would you just breed and breed like that? it’s disgusting. i was already set to bail on this awful book and finding out that the author can’t figure out how not to shit children into the world explains an awful lot about this terrible book with terrible plot and characters.

i just actively dislike this entire cast at this point. they all need a good kick in the ass.
i’m also left wondering how much of these books is godbothering bullshit. i see an awful lot of godbothering reviewers and the mentions of religion make me as uncomfortable as the romance that has slithered into the series. i’m considering bailing completely as i’m essentially constantly infuriated by everyone.

i gave it some time and came back and enjoyed myself.
