This is such an atmospheric text—it really transports you to the foggy, drizzly coast. It’s easy to read even as a non-native speaker, although I did have to look up a few terms in the first 10 or 20 pages that are a bit outdated these days.


So far, I’m really enjoying it.

So langsam geht's zu ende.

Ende der 50-er, Stalin wird zur Unperson, Imre Nagy hingerichtet, die DDR-Politelite wurschtelt ohne Kontakt zum arbeitenden Volk immer schön weiter. Leider alles etwas dröge erzählt.

Sehr deskriptiv, manchmal fast Sachbuchcharakter. Richtig spannend ist es bisher auch nicht. Dafür lässt es sich durch die konventionelle Erzählweise ganz gut und flüssig lesen.

While not exactly a joy to read, that's a marvelous book!

This is a very dense text, beautiful written (and translated). Not an easy read, but hey, who would expect that from this author 😉
