Apparently, Thucydides has been waiting 2500 years for me to finally get around to reading this, but, having started, I don't think I can wait another day. The story of how the world's first democracy becomes overconfident in its military and economic strength, abuses the goodwill of its allies, and follows its strong sense of exceptionalism into a catastrophic war somehow seems . . . I don't know . . . . relevant?
