It wasn’t good. MMC is truly awful, but unlike Alden’s other awful MMCs he really feels no remorse about it.

Wow, this started out decently and I enjoyed the first bit, the middle got a bit dull, but the end was a mess. This was a gamble on a new to me author. I don't see giving another chance after that ending.

So far I’m not impressed - I want to DNF it, but I’m being stubborn

I find it actually insulting to be asked to believe this ridiculous nonsense. The author isn’t even trying to make it believable when we’re presented with the outrageous circumstances of the child’s birth. As I make my way through this series, I notice how the world set up in previous books doesn’t keep consistency. These characters feel nothing like the ones we met two books ago.

Why is she such a nasty witch to him? And how does he find anything about her attractive (other than her supposed hotness)?

I liked it, but the end was super abrupt. They make up from the 3rd act breakup and it’s over with a kiss, no more. Abrupt endings always annoy me, but especially in this genre.
