Yashima is on page 272 of 666 of Gardens of the Moon (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #1)
It's been a while since I read Malazan, I am less confused than at first reading but more confused than for my 2nd reading which was shortly after I read the finale of the series. Still, I am looking forward to everything going on--unlike other series where I get anxiety on reread because I know what is happening.

I am not sure I can finish reading this one. All I want to know is about Thrawn.

I have ordered a new ebook reader. I think I stopped reading novels a while ago because I was getting migraines from reading on my old reader and only realized a couple of weeks ago that it might be the device and not me. (I've been reading essays and short fiction on my browser devices just fine)

I devoured the first pages. Loved Viv's meticulous planning & got "story envy" when she gets to the execution of her code. A story I wanted to be writing all this time. But the Empress shows up & it is a completely different story now. This is frustrating because I really really wanted more of that first chapter & now I am disappointed even though the new story would normally be something I'd love. Expectations...

I love prophecy in books. This one does it so well. <3 Dorian. And the way the conflicts twist and turn and force the characters to act... in ways they never wanted. I really needed a book that's this much fun to read.

I read this over 10 years ago (picked up the 10 year edition earlier this year) & this was one of two trilogies (Mistborn was the other) that got me to reading SF/F almost exclusively since then. And it reads just as beautiful as it was back then. With all the love I have for the Lightbringer series I'd forgotten how awesome Nightangel is!

My first book is out today (on Amazon, other stores follow on May 18 due to circumstances. Buy it on Smashwords then)

This is my book:

It's a short cyberpunk novel and I am already working on part 2. Please give it a look. If you are my goodreads friend, please write me a PM for a free copy.

I'm listening and it seems to me the plot is ... meandery. Quite. I'm a little disappointed right now. I liked both Children of Time and Guns of the Dawn so much, I had high expectations for this one. Not sure if I'm going to DNF.

Pace is picking up. Intrigues are swirling. I like the mix of plot and stories... think 1001 Nights.

So... I learned something new about goodreads today. I set a publishing date for my first ever novel (Yay!) and decided I needed a goodreads author page. From past experience with facebook I expected the author page to be somewhat of a separate entity - different but linked with my reader's page. Not so much. Not only did my original bio vanish, I don't even know if my username will still be visible... THIS IS A TEST

Even after checking all the jargon/names again, and lowing the book to 1.0 speed, I am having difficulty following the plot. Too many details. If I was in better "reading shape" this book is likely better read on paper or kindle.

I saw the Netflix show before reading this. I think that was a good idea. It not only makes this more accessible, I can also grasp her tone of voice better after having seen her on the show.

Listening makes this quite confusing because of all the many many names, especially the non-Baru POVs.

Help! I have more than two dozen unfinished/unread books on my kindle (not counting humble bundles) & on my shelf that I have either started or want to start soon... my current-reading shelf on GR is a big fat lie, it should be at least 10 books and I can't decide which to finish first so I've been playing Civilization 6 instead... I don't want to DNF all the books. How do I proceed?

I looked at a list of all the books in here. Saw that A Spell for Chameleon was mentioned and was 😨: "Oh no, it can't be that book is crap!" Now I got to where it comes up, and I am so glad that apparently Jo Walton agrees! 🤣

I mean I haven't read most of the books she goes on about how great they are. Only those she doesn't like... 🤔

I like the idea of magic that can be mistaken for coincidence. But this also allows the whole story to take place in the mind of the protagonist who is a most unreliable narrator. I'd place this firmly in "magical realism" country.

Love the book club scene, I feel the "too much talking". And couldn't agree more about the Thomas Covenant Chronicles.

I should definitely read more non-fiction. I always tell myself that when I finally get to it. This book keeps showing me how little I informed myself even when I thought I was doing it. Proof of how many grains of salt we need when consuming any media.

Surprisingly enjoyable, considering how little has happened so far and considering how I haven't read the majority of SFF books and stories name-dropped in here and where I've read them I don't always agree how good they are.... and when I finally decide to follow up on one, it doesn't appear to be in print anywhere -.-

Took me longer to get started on this than I thought. Audio is excellent as usual. The prologue gave a good re-visit of the world so I do not need to go back and re-read book 1 :) Also it does a nice job of explaining the pargmatic religion of the Interdependency.

"Show me," she said sharply in my ear, "show me what you're afraid of."
So I did.

By recommendation from several sides I finally started on this series. This is the line that turned from "nice read"... into "is my lunchbreak already over? I can't put down the book!" :) Not that I didn't see that development coming from a mile away ...
