Very Highly Anticipated! I very much adore the first book and have been looking forward to this one. So far, I am surprised at how often I have been surprised (!) at where the story takes me. This is a good writer, she keeps me guessing, and I love it! Also, lots of love for a middle-aged woman protagonist ❤️

I keep thinking that I know where the story is going... and, joyously, being utterly surprised!

The sheer number of perspectives here blows my mind. I think it is misunderstood as a story about a Norwegian missionary who tried to Christianize China! This is a Sami guy, thoroughly discriminated against for being proudly Native, against all odds educated as both a theologian and a doctor, speaking out against colonialism at every turn! Born 1870! He was radical! I love the intersectionality here.

I sort of jumped right in after finishing Survivor. This is (as expected) much more well-written, but I curse my past self for having read the Parable books before the Patternist books - the first year I read here, was 2021. Parable of the Sower started in 2024. So now, I inevitably compare "where" in the storyline I am in Clay's Ark as compared to the Parable books...
