my fondness for the goofiness of this book is starting to wear thin

I haven't been able to give any updates because I started reading this on a plane, and I've been sick, but two things of note:

1. apparently Hagrid's motorcycle was actually Sirius' and I wish this was mentioned in the movies.
2. The movie did so many things better that it's actually shocking to me rereading this and realizing how much is done differently - and worse - in the book.

i’m actually really loving this…

something about this worldbuilding is just not clicking with me. i can't bring myself to care.

waiting for them to try and eat a monster and it's just truly heinous.

very interesting that for the most part, the details of the horrors being committed against girls in this book are kept vague. except for the flogging.

sometimes there’s a huge wall of text and it reads like some 4chan nerd’s manifesto but well-written.

i wish i were loving any book i’m currently reading

picking this back up and i wish i were liking it more than i am, but the worldbuilding is a bit lackluster for me.

this is a difficult book to be like “yeah i wanna read it right now” so it’s taking forever for me to finish.
