ok this is cringy but obviously i’m enjoying it

i feel like we’re finally getting to the plot

some of the dialogue is kinda cringey but i like how easy this book is to read

ok this has been hard to get through and i think it’s because im just now enjoying the audiobook. i switched to reading it and im already enjoying it so much more lol

the references to Attorney John Dorsey Due, Ruby McCollum, and Harry T Moore is giving me goosebumps. These incredibly brave people shaped the civil rights movement and marked history in way that should not be forgotten. Tananarive- thank you for incorporating their stories into this book. 🫶🏻

I would really like to think that Crutch feels SOME guilt about bringing Robert to the Funhouse. Crutch acts differently than Boone, and we already know from Miz Lottie’s story earlier in the book that the Reformatory changes the people who work there. Is Boone too far gone? And has Crutch reached that point yet?

ok i feel like things are finally starting to happen!! I appreciate Gloria’s POV but her chapters feel much slow

is it just me or is the writing bouncing between POVs in the same paragraph ?? i’m confused

AND she’s a mechanic??? badass.

ok i actually love that our FMC is a badass single mother. I feel like I don’t see that representation very often and I am loving it

the parallels between this and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is so well done
