had to start the book over bc for some reason the first time i didn’t grasp half the shit going on. the dialogue is so back and forth it’s hard to understand who is talking. but izumi is relatable- i find myself flippantly wanting male attention too, not taking myself (or men) seriously, and being arrogant with my sexuality and attractiveness.

written from the perspective of an elderly lady- fragmented stories, too many references to literature to even keep track of or recognize, which is frustrating and almost cocky, yet this is how the character who writes translations of books expresses herself. time and narration are not written ordinarily

Cannot put it down! Been reading ever since I got home from the library. Serendipitous find, taking notes on titles she references within each chapter. Thoughtful writing and storytelling.
