Had to stop for a while because there was a glaring mistake at the end of chapter two, and then immediately following that another mistake at the beginning of chapter three.

Just got back to reading this after apparently setting it aside in 2018 0.o

It hasn't really got any less YA-with-swearing

Is this Young Adult? It reads very much like a YA novel. It's not exactly gripping me so far, although early days and all of that. Main issue at the moment is that Jazz is a twenty-something Arab woman who thinks and talks the same as Mark Watney from The Martian. Not ideal.

It starts with 'the trolls are in trouble! save the trolls!' and now Helen is flashbacking to an argument over taxes from over a decade before. Hmm.

Finally finished volume one: Fort Sumter to Perryville. Endlessly fascinating work that effortlessly captures both the big picture and the day to day minutiae of the conflict.

Something is not entirely working with this book. I'm enjoying it sort of, so far. It seems very long and drawn out and not as entertaining as "Going Postal" or "Making Money".

Reading this I'm feeling great nostalgia for the Tom Baker era of Doctor Who. You can almost see the slightly stagey sets and the low budget special effects as pitch perfect characters progress through a spaceship based time-loopy tale of daring and disaster.

I'm enjoying this a great deal. It's very dense though, and I don't seem to be getting much time to read it at the moment so I'm starting to feel I'm not giving it the attention it warrants :)
