Mona's Eyes
Me personally if my dad decided to bring my daughter to the art museum instead of her psychiatric appointments I would probably kill him, but maybe that’s just me. Also I hate this translation I wish I had just bought the French version

naming characters literally, just in a foreign language gets me every time. are we rly gonna name this lady the italian words for White Red and then on her first appearance describe her blond hair turning red in the sunlight 😭

I don’t quite have my finger on the whole recto/verso thing and I want someone (preferably Christelle) to explain exactly what she’s doing with that

the moralizing is crazy talking about how their nurse says they can trust her but she’ll disappear if they don’t pay her…. yeah that’s how it works

A Sitting in St. James: An Epic YA Historical Novel of Slavery, Secrets, and Brutal Truths in Antebellum Louisiana
Kinda dragging my heels through this one. It’s a good depiction of life on a plantation and the hardships of slavery and I have lots of respect for its historical accuracy. Thing is, it turns into weird rape erotica every once in a while and I don’t know why. In order to depict a plantation accurately you have to show rape, but it’s written so strangely, almost romanticized? Maybe it gets better, idk.

Moonflower Murders (Susan Ryeland, #2)
mm. it’s not that this is bad but some stuff rubs me the wrong way. the weird, almost sexist comments about sisters fighting and lawrence calling his child daughter good-looking?? not my favorite. i HATE the detail about random peoples’ sex lives. it really is not relevant to the plot at all and is just very, very uncomfortable. my mom is going to read this after me so that will be. strange i guess

White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism
i swear this woman is spinning a wheel for ideas. it gets dumber by the second. ALL WHITE PEOPLE (except me and my wokeness ofc 😌💖) ARE RACIST BECAUSE... SYSTEMIC RACISM EXISTS! WHITE WOMEN AREN’T ALLOWED TO CRY BECAUSE... EMOTIONS ARE POLITICAL! i don’t understand how this book got so many good reviews lmao

White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism
so far i’ve learned that i can’t be sad when a racial minority dies, it’s racist to defend yourself when someone calls you racist, and that the author is upset that she predominantly encounters white people in a country where white people make up the majority of the population lmao

I like the setup of the book so far! It has a lot of potential so I hope it doesn’t go any cliché routes.
