Enjoying it a lot thus far. I'm a bit regretful for having felt superior to age peers who liked Hobb's stuff back when I was a teenager. And what did I like? Can't really quite remember, to speak the truth, but nothing less embarrassing than Hobb, that's for sure.

Still enjoying the story immensely. A small gripe: dem fire arrows. Why oh why? :) Much less Young Werther-esque "oh Lord how my heart doth yearn for the most lovely Molly" stuff lately, thank goodness. The young lady actually sucker punched the Bastard just a while ago. Good for her I say. The war just feels mysteriously weird though. Just who are the Raiders? Why act like they do? Why so little characterization?

Sometimes gets a bit boring (i.e. the Erik stuff), but in general I find the story interesting. The world of corporate IT is somewhat foreign (only interned for a couple of months in support) but still fascinating to me.

I actually thoroughly enjoyed this book. As a kid/teenager I was never drawn to Hobb's work but read stuff like Eddings, Tolkien and Pratchett. But in Assassin's Apprentice, the writing and style feels very natural and high quality and contains very little in the way of really awkward and cringey stuff. The feel of the story is mostly subdued fun with just shades of grimness. Reminds a bit of GRRM's Dunk&Egg stories.

Ten percent in (not counting the biographies and notes sections). Apparently in the paper version this would mean something like 80 pages in. Even while all reviewers seem to say that Roberts' look at Napoleon's life is "gushing" and views his subject as a historical "great man" and general... in his early life, Roberts' Napoleon seems like an awkward, disorganized, overtly melodramatic, and frankly foolish dude. :D

A remarkable book, at least so far. It's been a good while since I last felt as engaged with a novel as I do with this one. I started off listening to this as an audio book, but ended up switching over to the Kindle version to better grasp the details. The Audible version did manage to grasp my initial attention though.

Actually. I do remember the last book of fiction that gripped me as nicely: The Martian!

I am utterly bored by this book. I alternate between reading this on my Kindle and listening to the story as narrated by Wil Wheaton on Audible... and I struggle to keep myself plowing through the mess. I appreciate that people really like the story and the way it's told, but... There's actually not much else than the hype to keep me going. And I'm a person who's into video game history, nostalgia, and all that.

The book begins in a really promising style and fashion. Interesting, subtly and naturally written "idea-centric" speculative fiction with android avatars and politics. I feel entertained and optimistic proceeding with this one.

Kirja on relevanttiudeltaan julkaisuhetkeensä sidottu, varsin lyhyt ja helppolukuinen. Sisältö on juuri sellaista analyysia kuin Odelta odottaakin, melko kansantajuisesti esitettynä. Osmo arvostaa asiantuntevaa ja pätevää otetta asiohin ja sortuu suht. harvoin julistavuuteen ja sloganismiin. Feels worth investing a couple of hours of attention.

Up to this point, Seligman repeats stuff from his earlier publishings for the general public much less than I would have expected. His general style of narrative is pleasant to read, and one might even learn something while doing it. Or at least get a reminder on some critical ideas.

Craig Ferguson is just a charming character, and his autobiography (possibly ghost-written, though he's a published fiction author himself) is likewise very likeable and his humble and self-deprecating tone is often highly relatable. Just a very enjoyable read, though I guess people who have lived near him might have a darker perspective on his stories, him being a self-declared recovering drunk and selfish asshole.

I'm slightly bored with the book, and mr. Graeber takes a really long route to present his points and theories about the nature and origins of debt and trade. The audio book is 11 hours long and contains a lot of paraphrased anthropological and historical findings from different researchers. I'm intrigued enough about hearing the parts of his idea he hasn't described in the first half of his book that I'll read on.
