Very interesting so far!

This writing feels juvenile. I only made it to chapter 2 before quitting.

I can’t. I freaking hate WWII books. A lifetime of teaching Diary of Anne Frank & Night has done that to me. I tried.

This book is sooooooooooo slow

HIGHLY ATMOSPHERIC! A great autumn read

This book was soooooo boring I almost quit. But 40% through (40%!!!!) BAM!!!!!!!!! Everything started happening at once!!

This is too hard to read. It’s hard to tell who the target audience is: I worked with men who’d been recently paroled for years, and I can’t do this. I love the idea of a novel that examines the prison-industrial complex, for-profit mass incarceration, and systemic racism. ALL the big things are there!! But it was just blood and guts and blood and guts and slow-moving drama, and I could not continue.

“It’s good to get out of your bubble. The truth can look very different. It’s why authoritarian regimes like the Soviet Union didn’t let their citizens travel. They didn’t want multiple viewpoints and debate.”

I hate this book a little. First of all, I’m so sorry two men love you desperately, that must be so hard for poor little you. And secondly, someone’s going to be (probably fatally) hurt, and I am NOT here for it.
