Book the second done.

I'm struck by how Dickens's writing on the people in the French Revolution reminds me of Steinbeck's similar progressive writings in The Grapes of Wrath, but in much more flowery and showy words.

Bastille Day. An all time great chapter. I've been pretty cool on this book so far, but damn these are some amazing pages.

Something must have happened in the world towards the end of 2025 which led to this book appearing EVERYWHERE, so let's see if this doorstopper is as good as the internet says it is!

"And as mere human knowledge can split a ray of light and analyse the manner of its composition, so, sublimer intelligences may read in the feeble shining of this earth of ours, every thought and act, every vice and virtue, of every responsible creature on it."

Never have I read something that so perfectly captures the nauseating feeling of anxiety from waiting for a big event to happen.
