Wow. It wasn’t jaw-dropping shock or the slight-of-hand that kept me reading like I stick with a Christie. It is the scene setting, the characterization that seems to capture the complexities of human interactions. PD James is truly a master. Her writing unravels… in every carefully constructed sentence there is revelation. I am looking forward to embarking on the PD James journey for sure!

Sarah Rabbon is starting Risen Motherhood: Gospel Hope for Everyday Moments
It feels weird to dislike a book that l clearly and beautiful lays the gospel out for mothers in the first few chapters. Besides that, this book is not relatable to anyone who isn’t a upper class, white, married, stay at home mother… there is no mention of widowed or unmarried Christian mothers. And most examples of hardship stop at cleaning playdough out of the carpet, moving, or a husband losing a job.

This book has HUMOR. And is also about one of the topics that I want to run screaming from most. It’s enjoyable to read and continually cuts the BS you read in parenting books…. This book actually affirms actual families. Wow.

This is phenomenal. More like the Alias Grace breed of Atwood works. My fingers are tingly. 😂

Not my favorite Atwood work… sticking it through to the end.

As I near the end of this work, I see how many do not get past the very beginning or get bored of the story.

My entreaty is to press forth! You need only wait five minutes for delightful ludicrousness to ensue. This is a masterpiece with 50 some odd characters sharing the same 5 names. History repeats itself.

Too freakin bad these genius mystery stories are fraught with racial slurs, orientalism, and exoticism. Racist ideas are not left behind by the David Suchet show 40 years later either. Damn.

I love the section on how to talk about race with our children. + show them how to take action from a young age. This was such practical advice.

So far, this book has glaring theological issues intermixed with some great word studies, scripture in context, and some HOT takes. Not sure how I feel about this so far.
