Amazing read so far!

I find myself drawing parallels with The God of Small Things.

Reminds me so much of Stephen Kings The Stand, so the premise doesn't seem new to me. Similar themes of apocalyptic events and survivors on different ends of the spectrum crisscrossing each other.

Where King invests time in fleshing out his characters I guess the pacing here is much faster.

Still an enjoyable read so far!

The Lottery - Shirley Jackson

Probably one of the best examples of why short stories are so potent. It starts out as a simple village ritual, a festive gathering that takes a nasty turn.

Great story

It's my personal opinion that the finest Science Fiction is not just about futuristic technology but the impact that it has on society and people.

Case in point the story Shit Flowers - It starts off with the premise of a modern day Mumbai where the sewage of the city is managed my AI controllers. The story starts off in Sci Fi mode & then turns into a poignant tale.

Some of the stories are really tough, some are just brilliant... The standout story to me so far was Putois by Anatole France!

Beautiful and poignant inspite of the running theme that the book carries. The artwork is stunning!

In the second story - Stealing the Sea the author starts with the premise that the Sea has suddenly disappeared without explanation overnight and then proceeds to examine the reactions of the different people.

The story had a Murakami glow to it and I think this will end up being one of my faves in this collection

While at the core both stories were not strictly Sci Fi I loved the way they used a fictional premise to set up the story.

In Inspector Matadeen it was the fact that the Moon is now colonized & Space travel is a thing that allows the author to deliver a scathing & humorous satire.

Weird thing... Goodreads shows the book length as 296 pages while the edition I have seems to have almost 370 pages.

Talking about the book - it seems vastly different from the other Murakami books I have read. There are no surreal moments, no magic, no mysticism

This is super super good! The artwork, the story, the writing... All so amazing!

This is fascinating stuff! The story at this point still seems pretty vague but the writing is nice and I am hooked!
