this novel is pissing me off because i really want to love it and can truly appreciate the writing, humour & overall message but i just CAN'T GET THROUGH IT AGHHHHHH

i keep trying (and failing) to convince myself that sartre doesn't sound *that* pretentious. i mean,, the writing is fine & sort of funny at times but the TONE- it feels like he's a "ooh-it's-dark-humour-ever-heard-of-sarcasm?" discord mod

sartre feels like that one guy who's kinda funny but in a scary way...

i am so sorry but at this point i feel like i'm reading an essay that just won't end.

dropping by to say that i'm utterly fascinated by the way in which the author defines documentation to build his argument. in the last two chapters he literally used a colonial exhibition to represent the structure of the coloniser's perspective, and employed berber oral poetry to showcase how the resisted against the french invasion. deeply impressive. anyway, i'm loving this so far!!

listen... this book is a ride; it is difficult for me to fully grasp what the author is getting at at times, but it remains a fascinating exploration of the topic and i'm so glad to be reading it! i'm just a bit worried about how long it's taking me to read 150 pages of historical theory haha... can't wait for uni.......

i love that he keeps full on roasting other historians and explaining how wrong they all are. it's entertaining, i can't lie.

just got spoiled for a dostoyevsky book and it hurts :(
