I like the story but the farther it goes the more depressing it gets. I love fairy tales but the second half of this one is disappointing.
Very Mild Spoiler:
I don’t like how the couple only has each other… no friends, no real care for others. On the rare occasion they feel something for someone else, it doesn’t feel genuine. It’s extremely annoying how men are called “males.” I hate that.

I’m really struggling with this one. I knew smutty books weren’t really for me in general going in but I love fairytales and this one doesn’t have any of that until like 11 hours into the audiobook. I do like the story but it is extremely toxic. I’m not sure what the author is going for exactly?

Listening to the audio version of this and feeling a lot of empathy for veterans. It must be so difficult to align with regular days after such immense stress, and especially if they live far away from the friends they made inside their tours.

Nearly to Chapter 3 and I’m struck by the tale of Bluebeard and it’s connections to the youthful mistakes we all make and the parts of ourselves who save us.

There’s a lot to talk about with this book. The weirdest thing is peoples obsession with fiction, claiming it to be true. And peoples worship of Lovecraft who was clearly a very problematic and insane racist. While a good author of cosmic horror, this should always be prefaced with mention of the thick and rotting racist ideals which permeate his work.
