I think the rest of this book is going to be too grim for me, but the relationship dynamic between the ice fae king and the money lender is 100% working for me. How do I order 300 pages of their culture clash marriage, with an occasional side of poisonings? As we all know from the Queen's Thief series, it's not true love until one of you has stabbed/poisoned/maimed the other...

I've been really enjoying this so far, but two major pet peeve strikes in the last 5 minutes: I can't stand it when authors have the big reveal of the supernatural whatever, and then the cynic character develops magical amnesia and the secret is reset for another 1/3rd of the book...

Yesssssss. Now come the adorable wastrel children.

I am just hate-reading at this point, hoping to see F'lar get the set down he so richly deserves... I don't think it's going to happen.

Oof. I don't think I've ever muttered "asshole" at a character quite so many times in so few pages... Assholery is a perfectly acceptable character trait of course, but I'm concerned I'm supposed to find him impressive, and even more concerned that he's going to become our romantic lead. Color me dubious.

I tried reading this several times as a young adult (movie too), but could never get past the opening - I was always too upset by the (period appropriate) view of adoption... I'm going to make it through this time, I am determined!

NPR put this on their annual "best of" list a few years back, and it's been on my queue ever since... Excited that the audiobook has been made available through my library!
