""Senator Joseph McCarthy had whipped up the fear of Communist infiltrators with his inflammatory rhetoric. *Man the watchtowers of the Nation* he scold... *Be vigilant day and night*. Being vigilant was generally the opposite of feeling neighborly ...bonds of friendship and kinship made every stranger a potential acquaintance. The world of vigilance suggested the opposite: every stranger might bring danger."'

Listened to my first "Sabbath School" discussion with Sasha Ross today re "Women In Mission In The Church". She discussed the chapter on Mothers, Sisters, Queens & Empresses"-- how these women carried out their mission to bring others to Christ. Just ordered the book yesterday and was quickly skimming, finding it interesting. Ross ID'd author used an "Evangelical lens"--eg., "homeschooling mom" and NO mention of EGW.

Cynthia is on page 740 of 868 of The Desire of Ages (Conflict of the Ages Series)
My husband and I have been reading this together-- out loud-- this year. We are almost done and will start the ACTS of the APOSTLES next. I don't think we will be reading it every year. It is wonderful of its kind, but there are sosososososos many other great books to read.

Cynthia is finished with When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress
Gabor Mate is my new psychero. This book eas easy to read and understand-- the early traumas in our lives shape how we function socially and emotionally and can cause serious physical illness. The Seven A's of Healing are helpful to work through the layers of repressed pain and chronic bad health.

impressed by the details of her early life that are knit into the early story, with her simple "telling" of the story without a lot of intrusive psychological analysis. My husband listened to the book up until just before the rape scene began, and said that he did not wish to hear more-- this likely mirrored many of the experiences of his German refugee parents and siblings and it is too painful for him to hear.

"As God'sduty alone, any passing of judgment by human beings is irresponsible behavior and often hinders the objectives of the gospel...This does not suggest, however, that we should not identify evil behavior and wrong policies. Christians must remember that their place on this earth is to be light and salt....Total commitment to God and love of the gospel is the secret of victory for God's end-time people... "
