Can someone explain to me again who are the nationalists and who are the Kuomintang?

I don't know how to say this more nicely: the writing style is making me want to bang my head on a wall.

The prose is so rambly and all over the place, I don't like to be TOO into a character's brain, reading every thought, it takes me out of the story. It's also incredibly boring. And the characters themselves are so boring and unlikeable (and I'm only 40 pages in!!)

Me?? Reading ~180 pages in one day??? Who would've thought😳 i don't even remember the last time i was this hooked to a book😩 I adore every single thing about it and I'd take a bullet for these characters🤌🏽
