This books is such a mess. It's lost the magical circus and games theme. It feels like a mash of popular Tiktok elements. Magical library? Well, we are just kissing dragons now.

That other magic system and the control over metal and that the other people are more "Western" totally reminds me of 《The Final Empire》. And such a word coincidence that it is call The Last Kingdom.

Totally love Max in a very negative way. Of she doesn't want to swear why the face does she do this. So annoying I just skip scenes with her in it! Avery as a character comes across fine without dropping swear words.

It's absurd that the sister is the last to know about the tree incident. Aren't they supposed to be super close? "The only family left' kind of close? Why would Avery tell her best friend? First thought was to text her best friend, but not tell her sister??

I can't get over how extremely similar the set up is to the J-drama Atashinchi no Danshi. Huge inheritance, ridiculous ask, house of riddles.

That twist, I saw coming as soon as we knew she was dating. 😞 I am disappointed for missing out on a surprise.

Not a fan of the sprinkling of French, Russian, Chinese, Korean words. I takes me story.

Only a few pages in... The translation is not good. Someone who has not read the original Chinese work, watched the animation, or know Chinese will find this confusing and littered with grammatically & structural errors. YIKES!

Hm... I don't quite like this twist. Having read his other books, this doesn't feel original anymore and I'm not really into this "guided thinking"/ summary thing. Kind of annoying. :/

Book 2, still world building. Boring.
Character personality still inconsistent. Such as, Hilo's inner thoughts does not match the person he's been portrayed as. At the beginning he's settling into the political side of the clan but then in just one thought it contradicts his growth and intelligence.

Having watched a lot of chinese dramas, this is nothing new and is reading too much like a bad chinese drama. The inconsistent personalities, dialogues, forced conflicts, scenes without depth all just to push the plot along... Might get better but I've lost hope.

Book 1 was great. Book 2 was bland. This book...after 7 chapters finally it begins. -_- I was beginning to think this wasn't a murder mystery.

One chapter plus a few more pages in and already the logic loopholes is blatantly obvious. Auntie Fang regularly beats her, she just accepts it. A handful of pages later she has no trouble standing up for her self, even threatening Auntie Fang back. In fact, Rin has so much leverage that Auntie Fang has to give in to the demands. HUH? Why didn't she...secure a better life for herself way way earlier?
