VT is finished with The Complete Western Stories of Elmore Leonard
I'm expecting to finish reading the last thirty pages or so tonight, and am going to mark this finished now. A bit of a review to come on my blog - this is a slightly patience-straining but excellent collection I would say most western genre readers should at least try.

I have already read this book a few times, I think, but the last time was twenty years ago or so. And so I read it again, as my last planned read of this year and as the last western in my house which I haven't read within the last few years. It's a big one, I hope I'll be able to read one story a day - read the first one this morning but it took awhile. Onward, ho!

This anthology is trying to kill me. I can't read more than a couple of pages at a time. Send help.

One of my writing club associates gave me this book, awhile ago - I figure it's a good time to catch up on my politeness and let them know I read it through - I've gotten a few ideas sparked from this book so far, although since I'm working on poetry at the moment, I've been applying them to poetry instead of short stories...

I had a peek at this book yesterday morning, and read the first chapter.
I'm excited to read more. I really think this is going to be good - so much so that I'm now holding back on reading more of this until I cross some other titles (which are probably going to be less good) off my westerns-to-read list.

There's a whole 'nother novel within the novel! I did not expect that.

Going to start reading this classic this weekend, I hope.
Just want to note right away I find it very disturbing this title/author combination did not come up on goodreads right away when I searched for the title.

Also, the photo provided is not actually the edition I'm reading, as I'm reading from a collection of classic westerns, but reading each title separately.

Finally started reading this one yesterday evening. I had been hoarding it because I expected great things, after loving Ride a Pink Horse (by the same author.)

So far, it's really good, but I do already know the "trick" that I believe will be revealed in the end (and I have seen the film adaption - which is not quite the same even now, although also quite good, a couple of times) so it's not quite as gripping as PH

I'm enjoying this, but my French is sufficiently poor that I can't tell if the "baddie" is a man or a woman, we are getting things from their viewpoint now and then and it seems to me their gender keeps changing! If this is an example of gender non-conformity it is just making reading this in a second language extra confusing!

Yesterday, Sunday, my only task of the day was to complete this book!

Well, I didn't. Boy, is this thing dense.

So far this is good, although I'm not sure a character wearing a Stetson makes this a western.

This book has been a bit of a struggle for me, with too many character to follow. I've got another fifty pages or so to read, and hope to finish up the book and review it more thoroughly later this afternoon (most of which will go on my blog rather than here on goodreads.)
However, I have stopped by to note that the complicated plot has, as far as I'm concerned, really jumped the shark just now.

I have been enjoying this book thus far, although I'm a bit worried by recent developments which suggest this story may be going in a romantic direction.

I have another book I need to read quite soon, so I really must try and get this one done in the next day or two! I was up late last night reading.

Having grown up in Winnipeg, I was too distracted when this first came out by things that were happening in my life to read it, but I've certainly heard about it.

Now, I've checked it out of my local library - and discover this is probably going to be a harder slog than I suspected! Oodles of notes at the back, a forward and other extras... this book is much bigger than i thought and it seems in black and white!

There have been a couple of stories so far, in this anthology, that have struck me as quite good.

And there was one in particular that it seems the editor skipped over.

The only question I have for this book so far is - is this going to prove to be a good book, or a really good book?

Didn't even intend to read it, was idly flipping through books last night and got hooked by this one.

I found a hardcover copy of this book in really great condition at The Book Shop in Penticton, "This edition published by the Reprint Society Ltd. by arrangement with William Heinemann Ltd., 1960" - at some point in the last twenty years or so someone bought a Bordart book jacket cover for it, which I'm sure helped preserve it, thanks mystery person!
It cost me $9 Canadian.
It feels like a great deal.

I thought I would complete reading this book over the weekend, but I find that I can only read 10 or 20 pages at a time before I wander off and do something else for awhile. It's not that it's bad, it's just that it's slow and rather dense.

Perhaps it's because I was tired last night, but starting to read this I'm finding the style a bit awkward --- also, having a vague idea of what happens, I'm wondering how long it will take to get there.

First, I apologize to the author for taking so long to read/review the copy sent to me.

Secondly, I've just finished (?) the first story - and while it was mostly amusing and quite wild, as it got closer and closer to it's conclusion I became more and more convinced it's a long way to go for a joke about, um, chili.

I'm going to try the next story and decide if I'll continue reading the book or not after that.
