Just finished the first book. Beautifully written, with fabulous characters that fully explore two conflicting approaches to life - taking vs nurturing.

I laughed and cried, and can’t wait to read book two.

The levels of stupidity necessary, on the part of the protagonists, to make this story possible, are mind-boggling.

One terrible decision is made after another, on the part of anybody with any power. Without these decisions, the story wouldn’t happen.

Is that the overarching message the author meant to send - all my protagonists are idiots? The bad guy doesn’t have to do anything - the heroes do it for him.

Full of interesting insights. Nothing new to me, but presented in new ways.

Casual sexism throughout the entire book. All the men work and provide some sort of value, all the women are eye candy. Honestly, this is pretty shit.

80 year olds fucking 17 year olds is creepy. Even when he’s in a 25 year old body, it’s still a difference of 1/2 a lifetime, and a power differential that’s nothing but ick. It wouldn’t have taken much to make their ages more compatible. At least the lechery aspects would be different, then.

It’s fascinating to read, but I think it’s telling me more about the author than I wanted to know.

The concept underlying the revelations are about the interconnecting of everything, and how nothing really stands in isolation.

One of the earliest books I’ve come across that advocates for a shift from analysis to synthesis, from knowledge-via-breaking-down to understanding-via-context and-relationships.

The main power of the heroes? Seeing in systems.

I learned more about how to use salt in the salt chapter than I learned in 25 years of experimenting and using recipes. This book is a gold mine.

By turns a noir murder mystery, a heart rending story of joy and sorrow, a military sci-fi adventure, and an elaborate story of deception and revenge.
I am not sure the last time I was so captivated by a book. I cried uncontrollably for the last 30 pages of Rachel’s story.
Beautifully rolls and woven together. Now for The Fall.

Very densely written. It turns out I'm not used to books that have been written for an advanced reading level, so I've struggled a bit while I get used to complex written language, again.
Fascinating read, however.

Noah is finished with Reaper Man (Discworld, #11; Death, #2)
This book was genius. Deep, speculative, funny, and a critique on the destruction of American cities.

The world is a much poorer place without Terry Pratchett.

Deming's foreward has numerous self-evident comments for anyone already familiar with his work, but which might rattle cages of anyone who isn't.
