continued educated reflection:
"If you're smart, you'll use this on yourself, [The knife] because it's less painful than what I'm going to do to you" (Westover 286). I think this is absolutely crazy, that Shaun openly threatens her in front of her parents. What I think is even crazier though is how nobody punishes him for it. Everyone just lets it slide, because her family is so messed up.

This update is for the Educated book I have to read in school:
This part of the book I feel is the climax because all of a sudden Tara's life is changing. She has informed her dad about the abuse she received multiple times from Shaun, and now he's on his way to her house. She knows there is no turning back, and everything is changing. When Shaun gets to the house he tells Tara (cont)

This update is for the book Educated for my English class:
In the book, Shawn and his wife just had a baby, who had many health problems and was born too early. One thing that struck me really hard was the dad's view on this. After the birth, Tara's dad states that "God had orchestrated the birth just like he orchestrated the explosion" (Westover 34). I think this is crazy because the dad never sees anythings in

When Charles is at her house, she treats it like a game. Instead of getting help, she is just trying to cover it up. Tara treats it like a game, stating "Of course I'm ok, Shawn is so... FUNNY" (Westover 188). Tara believes she is doing something wrong, so she just tries to ignore it.

In the spot that we are supposed to be in in the book, I am blown away by how Shawn treats Tara. He totally abuses her in major ways, and she is terrified of him, but at the same time never asks for help. She could be going to the police, but because of her secretive childhood, I believe that she doesn't know this. She treats it like a game when she is in front of others and being abused. (con't)

She is totally oblivious to anything in the past. This is revealed when she knew nothing about WW2 in class, and also when she learns about slavery. When she looks at slides about them in class she states "I was still ignorant to be surprised" (Westover 179).

A big thing that has been brought up recently in the book has how Tara is totally clueless about racism and black history. This has revealed to me, once again how important an education actually is. I thought that education was important to get into college, but I had no idea how much it showed you history. What I mean by this is that without schooling, Tara has no idea what has happened in the world. (Cont')

I feel that this is interesting because it really shows that you need to be trained and work up to college because it's almost an impossible place to just start. This is why we have the education laws that we do.

A very big, reoccurring part of where I am in the book, is how difficult education is for Tara in college. She is really struggling, because up to that point she had never been to school. She is feeling hopeless and overwhelmed in almost every class that she is in. She feels out of place and even talks about how she "didn't belong, and couldn't be taught to belong" (Westover 164). (continued in next summary)

The one big part that I am finding most interesting, and constant, is Dad's horrible decisions, and stubbornness. So many times the Dad has taken the "My Way or the Highway" approach, and every time it causes an almost fatal acident. I think the reason that we will learn that he is like this is that he is scared of something that has happened in the past. But his stubbornness has led to many many addicents.

A big topic that I can ask my group about is do you think that the family in this book should get in trouble, or do you believe they are in the right.Because there are many parts in this book, not schooling, delivering babies without a license, etc. that makes me wonder that if the government knew what the family is doing, they would be arrested. So I could just really see if my group members believe she's morally ok.

The book has just begun, but I can already tell that I like the way it's written. It is told from the protagonist's point of view, meaning its first-person. This will make it very easy to tell what the main character is thinking. Also, I am enjoying it because the protagonist, Michael, is my age, and he is very relatable. He has super powers, which also makes him super fun to follow.

still won't say that Jesus is not real, and this is what gets them killed. This kind of faith shown in my book amazes me, and I hope I can have faith as strong as this. Because even death and torture cannot stop Gods love.

Just for their faith in Jesus. It amazes me how horrible some leaders/terror ship organizations are around the world, who will torture and brutally kill anybody who says that they have faith in God. In many instances in this book, communist or terror groups give the option for the character to say that God isn't real or die. Even though it seems like the easy way out of this is to just denounce God and live, most

Why I chose this book and whether it's meeting my expectations: The book that I am currently reading, "Jesus Freaks," Is a collection of hundreds of stories of people who have been prosecuted for their love of Jesus. When I started reading this book, I expected a sad collection of stories, but nothing like what the book actually is. It is so heart wrenching and depressing how much pain that people are put through

The protagonist in my book, Jaron, has so many layers to his personality, that it is easy to be shocked and entertained by his behavior. First off, he is always thinking about the bigger picture and creating plans to save everybody that he knows. Whenever he gets captured he is always wondering if his allies are in danger, before he asks himself if he is in danger. This I believe will actually be his downfall,

I'm about halfway done with my book so far, and it is very intriguing. The protagonist Jaron is very smart and does not conform to authority, and these attributes land him in lots of trouble, and for these reasons, I am constantly on the edge of my seat. In the book currently, Jarn is hiding from a pirate leader, and my prediction is that he will end up getting captured, and need to find a way out.

These chapters are slowly getting better and better! Now there is much more action, where before it was a lot of dialogue. This makes me glad because I was starting to lose interest, but I'm enjoying the book again. Lots of character development, this book makes it easy to get to know characters.

The story is moving a bit slow, but still fine. There is a ton of character building, each part so far just wanting you to get to know the characters. Also, a big mystery that becomes even bigger with every chapter. I do enjoy it though, and am going to try and read more before our next class.
