I think this is absolutely crazy, that Shaun openly threatens her in front of her parents. What I think is even crazier though is how nobody punishes him for it. Everyone just lets it slide, because her family is so messed up.

This part of the book I feel is the climax because all of a sudden Tara's life is changing. In the book, Shawn and his wife just had a baby, who had many health problems and was born too early. One thing that struck me really hard was the dad's view on this.
