so I didn’t realize this was going to be voiced with like sound effects and everything for the scary bits so I fully jumped out of my bed when my goal was to have something to fall asleep too 💀

2 - liked the first 25% but after that it honestly just didn’t work for me. the world seems interesting but I couldn’t connect with the characters? I can definitely see who the target audience is for this but personally I think the plot meandered a bit too much for me to ever catch on

have a lot of mostly finished stuff on my shelf I’m trying to clear out

I like this so far, especially the characters, but I was really expecting more fantastical traveling adventures so I’ve been a little disappointed we’ve just been pacing around here

sunk cost fallacied my way into finishing this, I think one of my problems is a dislike towards the main pairing. this is fully just a me problem because theoretically this set up makes a lot of sense. one of the reasons I feel meh about this is that I misunderstood the age gap to be several decades apart instead of years and now I’m kind of having a hard time reinterpreting half the book with that in mind

3.25 - intense as hell, wish it leaned in a little more with the strangeness of what’s outside and/or had a more definitive ending

3.65 - super fun concept, but I felt like the “lesson” the author wanted us to see was just being beat over our heads instead of naturally interpreted as the plot continues. and there’s nothing inherently wrong with this, but this book is just so painfully written by a straight white man lmao

4.25-5 ish but honestly just going to give it a 5, this was so fun to read I got through all of it on the plane

appreciated how they touched on racism in this - also the “yes, I do consider myself a role model for all American women”

side note I really wanted to like elias but as it went on holy shit

3.5, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from this but I was surprisingly hooked the whole time. wish the ending bits were wrapped up a bit better so we were fed more twist information throughout instead of the huge info dump at the end
