Preemptively mourning the day I finish this book. Is this shelved as erotic literary fiction? Because it should be. The author is painfully brilliant. Subjects from socioeconomics, art, ethics, poetry, privilege, philosophy etc are well debated and challenging. It makes me miss college.

When I first read it I thought that for a dark book it was pretty happy. But this time I caught that Helena’s inventions were credited to others and she was erased and she mentioned the history books talking about her contributions to the cause. It’s not happy I take it back 😖

Part two is so emotionally destructive upon reread. First go around I had to be convinced (for a long while!) to care about him, but now that I do, everything that happens with him has the chance to fully sink in 😖

Don’t judge a book by its 1980s Fabio cover. It’s been on my tbr for ages, and I’ll admit the cover made me hesitate, but I’m so glad I picked this up. It’s well written, has cool and accessible magic system, and really good romance.

I’ve spent the last book and a half thinking Erik and Eren were the same person. What’s worse is I just reread Leave Me Behind two or three weeks ago so you’d think I’d remember who is who.

This doesn’t feel like modern romantasy in the best way. It feels nostalgic and unique, and maybe that’s because of the syntax or that it’s not chock full of tropes. In any event, it’s extremely enjoyable.

Still preemptively mourning the day I finish this book

This is shaping up to easily be my favorite read of the year. I’m already wishing I could erase it from my mind and read it again for the first time.

Never read HP or Manacled, but I heard it has a dark and gothic atmosphere, so I picked this up. Very good so far! I love a long book that slowly unfurls itself.

I’ve missed SJM’s books so much

What a breath of fresh air! I’m loving this.

The first quarter of this was rough. It’s going okay now—not loving not hating, and trying to remain patient. It kinda reminds me of the Witch Walker series

It’s giving One For My Enemy meets a dash of Crescent City and I’m loving it.

The warning that it’ll trigger religious trauma would normally have kept me from reading, but I’m glad I ignored it.

I think this is my favorite book of Karina’s! It’s so refreshingly different and has this element of horror/suspense that I didn’t expect.

Why has literally nothing happened? Is this just a sophomore slump? Is the third book better?

Chapter 35 🫢

I don’t think I’m really feeling this book, but I’m too stubborn to throw in the towel. But as this is the exact same situation I was in with my last read maybe I will DNF.
